newid Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Yes, you heard me. Trash it! I want to make it better so I need to know what you guys think of it. I welcome design criticism as well as functionality. I know that I'm not using all the osc has to offer on my site, but I don't need all that it has to offer either. Anyway, let me know what you think of it. You can find it at www.fretware.com Thanks Beau
newid Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 Loving it so far! Guess I should have worded my request differently huh? Anyway, I'm looking for SPECIFIC negative input. So WHY does my site suck? That's what I'm looking for. Thanks Beau
Guest Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 I think removing the breadcrumb was a bad idea having to use the back button to navigate is a no no for me. youe create an account is non-ssl, i for one would never give my info without seeing the yellow padlock Regards The_Bear
newid Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 Breadcrumb? I'm afraid you got me there. No idea what that is. How do I put it back, since I didn't know I removed it. With the non-ssl thing. Online payments are made via paypal, which IS secure. I do not accept direct credit card payments. Are you saying that you wouldn't create an account without a padlock? If so, then I need to rethink whether or not creating an account is mandatory in the first place (something I've had mixed feelings about since finding osc). I've seen a couple of contribs that tackle the "create an account" thing, and perhaps I should look at them. Personally, I think that they should go the route of creating an account AS an order is being placed, instead of requiring an account to be created before an order can be placed. Many people may not want to create an "account", because they just want to order something and that's it. Even though getting their info will be neccessary for the order, I think having to "create an account" before you go through the order process is a bit much. It should be done transparently WHILE the order is being made. Let me know how to put the breadcrumbs back, cause I certainly didn't mean to delete them. Thanks! Beau
Guest Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 The breadcrumb is the navigation bar in your header where it says my account | Cart content | checkout on the right but on the left you should have Top>>Catalog>>bla >>bla>> As for the create account you can install this contribution http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ons,355/page,13 But the customer still has to fill out some info (for billing and shipping purpose) but still, lots of customers wont leave their info if it is not ssl Regards The_Bear
newid Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 Ah, ok, gotcha. So I guess the only way to do ssl is to get a certificate eh? Beau
Guest Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 You can ask your hosting provider if he as a shared ssl (free of charge) The_Bear
newid Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 Oh I know he doesn't, cause I share root with him on my machine.... I've been looking at getting one anyway, and have noticed that there are a couple other companies out there selling them at huge discounts off what verisign charges. I'll have to find it again, but I remembered seeing it just the other day and it was very cheap (like 39 bucks for a year or something). So I'll probably go ahead and get one and install it on the server. Thanks Pierre, Beau
sofrito Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Looks like you put a lot of work into it. Your /create_account.php breaks the page look. Keep at it you look almost done. No man can tell the God what to do.
Guest Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Here is why your site sucks: http://www.fretware.com/catalog2/ I was clicking around and stumbled across this. You do not have a default page and you allow your directory to be indexed. Ordinarily I would not post this however, you will be taking peoples orders and they will be trusting you that your store is safe. If you don't understand why what I am saying this is not safe, please get out of the ecommerce business.

No need to be a jerk about it. If you're so smart why don't you share with the rest of us why this is "not safe"? :? Let's see if you know as much as you think you know.
