Guest Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Hi All, I have 2 websites built with following template systems: www.quickbizsites.com www.instantestore.com which are ok but really have their limitations, you need to be online to make changes and cost for the 2 sites is $74.90USD per month which is why I have been looking into doing 1 or 2 oscommerce sites. The problem is I only have basic HTML skills and have no idea about PHP or My/SQL so I would like to know if I am biting off too much? Should I perhaps try to find someone to do the whole site or I do have the opportunity with a hosting company to buy a ready-to-alter site which has the basics and I just need to customise. Any comments on this would help. My other problem is I have downloaded oscommerce a few weeks back but it does not make much sense and when I try to open files I get a box asking which programme do I want to open the file in. I don't understand this. Any help on opening very welcome? If anyone can offer we some guidance or idea of what to expect it terms of skills and time to build it would be appreciated. Thanks Belinda
woekiewoekie Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I have very little HTML skills and none PHP skills. I managed with the help of reading the documents properly, reading the forum and placing questions. Just read, read read and you will manage
Guest Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 To use oscommerce on your computer, I would reccommend downloading two pieces of software, both of which can be downloaded from download.com. 1.Phptriad This software turns your computer into a virtual webhost, it allows you view your pages offline. 2.winsyntax This software is a very simple progrma that allows you edit the scripts. Both pieces of software are freeware! Also when most of us found out about oscommerce we had very little, if any php or mysql experiencem, but you can pick it up quite easily just by playing with the code. Also someone recommended me this book when I first started, I never actually purchased it, but it looked very good. http://www.sitepoint.com/books -Matt
