Shipping Rates by Order Total? How?

I see people advertising shipping costs by total order price.

 

Does this mean their markup is high enough to cover the shipment rates?

 

I sell everything from a .5 lb item that costs $100 to a 50 lb item that costs $100.

 

How can you calculate rates like this.

For cases like that it is usually weight based or they make sure the markup is high enough to compensate. I would suggest in your situation that you not do that because of the disparity in the weight
