alleyesonme Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hi there, sorry for creating another post but im still really new at all this, i have just somewhat sucessfully installed v2.2 ms2, however i find that i can go straight into the admin panel without logging in? like the prev version. also like the prev version i am not able to create another admin account?? i dont have an administator option>setup anymore? im sure theres a simple explanation but just seems strange. please help. regards
Yari Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Hi. I'm still a noob too  I have tested osC before and I'm back to it because it's a very good peace of software  but I don't get it why there isn't a built in login function to admin in osC ? Anyway, you need to protect the admin section with files called .htaccess and .htpasswd so do a search about that and you will find out how to do that.
alleyesonme Posted July 22, 2003 Author Posted July 22, 2003 thanks for that i will do, its just when i logged in using the previous version supplied by my hosting company it asked for a login and password. so didnt understand why this is removed from this version? also the prev version allowed me to create more accounts and limit to what can and cant be amended
Guest Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 It most likely just means that your host installed the .htaccess and .htpasswd files as part of their install method. Good luck, Matt
Yari Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 No problems, and I guess your hosting company made thoes files for you before, if I'm not wrong I don't think osC has had any login for admin section before either ? Is there anyone that can tell the reason why there isn't any built in login to admin section in osC ?
Guest Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Yes, because Apache already has login capabilities. This allows the dev team to concentrate on cart and display issues and leave access administration to a rather full featured Apache (or IIS for that matter) product. Good luck, Matt
Yari Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Maybe it's because I'm a noob with osC that your answer feels a little bit strange for me  I have seen all the contributions and the skills a lot of you have here that it shouldnt be to dificault for someone to make a good working login for osC. I know for a fact that it can be very difficault for a lot of people to understand how to do with the .htaccess and .htpasswd files that it was for me  and for me it should make more sence if there was an built in login because how many osC shops isn't wideopen many days before the owner understands how to protect the admin section.
alleyesonme Posted July 22, 2003 Author Posted July 22, 2003 ok cheers guys, guess i better do some research now.
Yari Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 @alleyesonme. Do a research and read about it and after that you can ask all your questions here, I'm sure someone can explain how you shall do :D
