If you read it all it tells you exactly where to edit the text.

Please try searching for answers before starting a new post.

"The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis:

[path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php"

Like I said read.

Also check out:

Can give you a great tutorial.

It is much easier to get a basic understanding of how it all works, than to start a new thread for every little problem you have.

you know i've been to many forums, and there is one forum i love - it's my Honda Aero Rider forum. and at the beginning it states : if you have a question, just ask it, someone will help you, again and again...i don't know how many times i've answered others where to buy break pads; what's the model # on K&N filter for our bike etc etc. it takes me same effort to tell him to look for it in the pages and to reply w/ my knowledge, so why not make one of my riding buddy's life easier w/ that effort...

when you stumble into something totally new w/ vast information to learn it's often overlook the obvious stuff. and forgive us non or half-ass programmers. it took me two days to get the catalog updated and one day to find out how online credit card processing works. i was never the smartest but did get an MSEE from Ga Tech!

I don't understand you. I am trying to help you learn the system so you can answer your own questions in the future. Chances are this will not be your last change to your store.

It takes a basic understanding of the osC script to really know how to change things.

I have been working with it for about a month and a half and I had no knowledge of PHP when I started, but with the help of the tutorials I got a better understanding of the concept behind most of the script. Then I asked questions in here if I had a more difficult question.

Theres and old saying "You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, or teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime"

If you want simple answers search before staring a thread, most people don't respond to questions like these because the have already been answered 1000 times.

I'm not sure what you are expecting with osC. It is great software, but it takes time to get used to and figure out, (especially if you have no prior web experience).

So unless you really want to leave your shop almost bone stock, I recommend you follow my suggestions.

While I am apparently willing to work a little more than the previous patron, I am still really confused how PHP works. I got it all installed instantly via my web host, but I'm still having troubles customizing the mainpage. My store is hosted at www.joekalis.com/djcart, and all I've been able to figure out is how to change the text headers for the various boxes, as I've demonstrated by putting an image in one of them.

So, while I am seeking advice, I will make my question a little narrower than the other...which php file do I need to alter in order to:

1. Change the order of the boxes (manufacturers, quick find, shopping cart, etc) either to the other side or lower down or higher up, etc.

2. Change the header image at the very top so i can put in my companys logo instead of it saying "osCommerce"

we'll start from there. hopefully someone can help.

so now i have this.

well sometimes i think you do need to understand things better, this is "community support", not commercial support. and this is not his company either. so when use word "you", make sure who you are referring to, dude...

Thank you very much...what I was mainly looking for was a Modification guide, which you just pointed me too. Thank you kindly.

You posted a link to the installation guide...I needed a modification guide.

While I appreciate your help, you really should simmer down a little bit if you're going to show signs of wanting to help. Either be helpful, considerate, and patient, or don't help at all. Nothing adds to frustration of problems with implementing code than someone being rude after someone doesn't understand their directions (sometimes incomplete, sometimes answering the wrong question).

Just a thought.

Thanks again.

Dear James et al,

I've heard great things about OS Commerce. But I understand the frustration others have shared. I also am unfamiliar with php - which is fine. I'm a quick study with the proper tools/guidance.

But when I signed on with my host I did not receive what I really needed - the link you ultimately gave - either to the installation or modification guide. I think for many users the simple answer would be to put these links on the front page of your support site. You have news, demonstrations, PHILOSOPHY, knowledge base (which is piecemeal advice). But no place that takes you from start to end. I've been looking for two months and this is the first time I've had a link to something i can READ.

You may think we're all idiots - but if you have so many people saying the same thing, it might be wise to take a look at the cause.

By the way...I just disabled the OS banner and enabled mine - to no effect. Ah well....better do some reading.

there is 25000 new people signing on the internet per day and about 25% trying to set up websites and shopping carts. well guess i will just stick to my hosting company and use aacart for my shopping mall

In the beginning I was trying to be nice and helpful. On the default osC page it tells you exactly what file to edit.

Raymond took this the wrong way and starting screaming because the support forum isn't as good as his commerial paid support that he is used to.

I am glad to help with any questions, but the fact is every question in here is one of the first things the install guide and modification guide deals with. Not only would you get an answer to your question, you will understand the theory behind what is actually happening in the site.

I was in your same shoes in the begining of June, not knowing anything. But the first thing I did was read all of the wiki that I could.

My site isn't live yet, but you can take a look:

http://www.gofastperformance.com/catalog/default.php

Granted I did have some help from the community, but it was for the more advanced problems I came accross.

Please everyone read the docs and if you still have problems let me know and I will talk you through it.
