rmyles Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 Hi all, I'm using a pre-2003 snapshot and I think I'd like to upgrade to a current version. I've spent considerable time customizing my site and I'm wondering a couple of questions: How do the "experts" keep track of all the changes they make so that when it comes time to do it again it's less tramatic? Is there an easy way to upgrade or is it just a brand new install? Seems like an awful lot of work... Any thoughts would be appreciated Ron
Guest Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 If I read this right you want to know how to avoid disater once modifying files? If not I never understood what you wrote  Anyways, always make backups before you modify any of your files Label them too. Each time you do modify a file test it to make sure it works!
Guest Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 from the posts that i have seen, it's a rebuild, there has been discussion on this, try a search
Guest Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 be aware if you are looking at moving to MS2, most of the contributions will not work and need to be re-written, so be very very careful... MS1 may be your first stepping stone and as noted, one of the critical parts of moving to a newer version is going to be modifying and transferring your db info - there are a couple of scripts included in the installation folder to help do it, but there is some manual labor involved.....
