Confusion with installing osCommerce and PHP alltogether

Hey,

Before I explain, I want to say that I have searched extensively and done my fair bit of reading and even attempted to have a crack at my problem a few times.

Basically my web host has osCommerce script installed so all I had to do was hit install to get everything up and running (the sample site with admin access etc). After reading some guides I am obviously missing the "install" directory where I would've done some editing and setting up as far as my database etc goes. I would prefer if I can simply use the install instead of uploading manualy as it comes accross as being a whole lot easier. I don't really require the site to be on my computer and am curious if I miss anything crucial by not going through the /install/ directory?

Secondly I have tried to use foxserv to help with my php needs (had a crack at phpmyadmin but to no avail), which are quite minimal. I only want to install a WYSIWYG editor and apart from that don't see any other contributions which will need me to edit my database. Offcourse this may change so it would be best for me to learn anyway. I've read around the place but am still quite confused. :(

I know I'm asking alot and osCommerce needs some knowledge to use properly but I just haven't been able to find any help properly aimed at my problems. Thanks alot for whatever help / links you can give me.

I have added www.mysite.home as my local host through searching the forums, if that is helpful to anyone. I know it works, because it asks for a username / pw.
