Products suddenly lost?

I am evaluating the migration of an existing 2.3.4 shop to 4.14 (plus patches for long image paths and subcategory display). I was able to import the existing data, and see it displayed in the "Watch" theme. I am playing with creating a custom theme (one widget at a time) and I noticed recently that clicking on a main page category no longer brings up any product under that category. Same problem if I switch back to Watch theme. The link from the category (e.g., batteries) seems to be good (https://<domain>/batteries) but it just comes back to the / main page. Under admin, the batteries category is there, and it shows a number of products under it, with quantities > 0. I don't see anything suspicious in either the backend (admin) or in the database itself. Any suggestions on where to start looking? I wonder if I messed up something in the SEO processing of a category name, rather than not seeing products to display? I still have just the one page defined for this theme, but I think I was getting the products displayed before (but I won't swear to it -- I may be confusing it with the Watch theme, which used to show the products). The featured and new products sections no longer show any products. The theme says that all pages use this page layout, which may have to be changed once I get things starting to work.

Here is check list:

1. The category/product status is active

2. The category/product is assigned to the frontend if you have multiple frontends (Assign tab)

3. The category/product has correct SEO name (SEO tab)

So far, no luck. My apologies for the delay responding, but I had a bit of a mishap and am nursing a couple of cracked ribs.

> 1. The category/product status is active

All categories are active (green). Most products within a category are already active (green), although some had gotten switched "off" somewhere. All categories had at least one active product. Note that subcategories are NOT shown any more, just as no category shows any products.

> 2. The category/product is assigned to the frontend if you have multiple frontends (Assign tab)

Do you mean "channel"? I have only one (added, the sample four channels are disabled). I don't see an "Assign" tab anywhere.

> 3. The category/product has correct SEO name (SEO tab)

All categories seem to have the correct seo name, e.g., "Battery Enclosures" are "battery-enclosures" under "categories" SEO, and that's what displays on the splash screen link. "SEO" under product edit shows the title folded to lowercase and spaces replaced by -'s.

Worst case, I can reload the latest osC v4 and re-import the data, but first, I'd like to know what went wrong (so I don't somehow break it again), and second, whether a simple action will fix it. Is there a wiki or other documentation entry to cover my case exactly: modify "Watch" theme or create something similar, make it the sole sales channel, import existing data from another site (osC 2.* store), and suggestions on creating category images? I would think that would be a very common course of action, much desired by potential users.

This is sad to hear. Hope you get better soon.

Assign tab is active only for multichannels shop. You can forget about it.

You can PM me a link to your store and access to the admin area. And the name of the category for which products are not displayed.

Andrei seems to have fixed it (thanks for the quick service!). He said that the products were assigned to the "Furniture" channel which is why I didn't see them. I recall trying the Furniture theme when everything disappeared from my custom theme (and also "Watch" theme, which it's loosely based on) but I'm sure I switched back to my custom theme. Maybe I ended up switching sales channels, too? So, I'm still not sure exactly how it happened, but maybe this information will be useful to someone who runs into a similar situation.

It seems you imported the categories and products into Furniture sales channel and then switch Furniture off and use <custom> sales channel.

In this case you should go to sales channel and assign categories/products to the new channel:

There is both a <custom> sales channel and a <custom> theme for it.
