All the sudden i have a big slow down whenever i insert or edit a new product. This has never been like this, i don't know what could possibly be the problem. I even have DSL and it's always been moving quickly for me. Any help would be appreciated. :(

Well, i've turned off the categories counts, and things are moving a lot faster. Also i dunno what happened or why, but the admin was still slow after that, but today everything was moving extra fast. I guess it was the server's load time that screwed things up a bit. Cause the server load was down for a bit :D

The problem your having is due to your "Server Load". The server load is basically the thingy on your server that controls you uploading and loading things onto your server. You see when mine was done, i was experiencing a major slow down when inserting product, although my catalog loaded fast. I only had the problem when i was inserting products or making changes to them. But now that the "Server Load" is back up 100% everything is working awsome again.

I simply suggest checking with your host why uploading is so slow, or maybe i suggest you get dsl, which is what i have. And dont' be afraid to bother your host, lol, it's what you pay for. I hope this helps out, if not please reply.

There answer so far:

We have actually been working on your account to see what the slow down is all about. Creating a test product is definitely not fast. But could be due in part to the large amount of attributes being submitted in the web form. There's no significant load increase upon creating and editing items. We've tried this at times when your particular server has the least amount of load. We don't limit the uploading of information or files to your account whatsoever.

We are going to continue to investigate this. Please feel free to contact us as often as you wish. That's what you pay us for :)

This is a reply that I eveived from my host:

A: We have actually spent some time working on this in your accessories category. Below are some stats for today for adding and updating products (everything else appears fast) over a DSL connection. Are these the times you're getting too? When adding or updating products, there's no significant cpu or memory load on the machine. We don't restrict you in any way either. We had a restriction so that customers couldn't take up all the ram and cpu resources for themselves if other sites needed it as well. But we even took that off for you. It wouldn't seem like it would've affected you anyway since there's plenty of resources to spare and by comparing add and update times it appears not to have affected you. We don't think we have any other customers with as many products or, especially, attributes as you. The most popular e-commerce site we host with the same hosting system (but on a different physical server) is Floweria.com. They use Miva Merchant. And they only have 200 products. They do very well sales-wise and receive a lot of traffic. But they never have any issues entering product information. I'm thinking this might be a limitation of oscommerce. We will continue to investigate. Worse case, we can move you to a different server or even a windows server. That might be a good solution. We could even set you up with a temporary windows account and see if oscommerce behaves the same way? It's quite possible that oscommerce just wasn't meant to have so many attributes and/or products.

times:

add new product

with attributes, no image

11 seconds preview, 12 seconds insert

26 seconds preview, 8 seconds insert

25 seconds preview, 12 seconds insert

with attributes and image

30 seconds preview, 14 seconds insert

add an attribute

11 seconds preview, 12 seconds update

26 seconds preview, 12 seconds update

25 seconds preview, 13 seconds update

26 seconds preview, 12 seconds update

What should I do?
