newid
Is there an easy way? Is there a post that details upgrading that anyone can point me to? I just uploaded and installed a version of oscommerce that I've had residing locally for about a year now (it was the loaded snapshot from back then). It seems to be working fine. But I'd much rather keep up to date with the installation and make sure everything is tip top. I've never really understood the cvs and snapshot thing (my brain is full from having to tackle sql and php to understand osc, far too many abbreviations!). Anyway, what is going to be the best way for me to tackle this? Should I wipe every trace of oscommerce off the server and start over? Replacing the style sheet and other changes I made as I go? Or is there a way to actually "upgrade" without having to go too far into all that other stuff? Any help you guys can give would be appreciated. newid
Thanks, The version I currently have installed is Ians loaded snapshot, which I'm pretty sure was 2.2. When I installed it, it was "unsupported" and in testing, but everyone was using it and all the contribs were based on it. I believe 2.1 was the version that was the latest stable release. But I do remember reading that by using 2.2, I'd be using a version that wasn't upgradable, and that if I wanted an easy upgrade, I'd need to go with version 2.1. I think I will go the route of a completely new install as I've seen many contribs here this afternoon that are based on the milestone 1 version (though, I don't know if they will work with milestone 2, I'll ask the individual contributors about that). I'd like to try out the template system and the affiliate system as well. So I think I'll go with a new install. After learning how to customize the thing last year and having all the files that I had to change in one area, customizing 2.2 milestone release shouldn't be that difficult. canfone
I am currently working on upgrading a 2.2CVS to the 2.2 - 2 Milestone. My game plan right now, is to install a clean install of the new version with a new database, and then use the phpAdmin, to export all of the catologue data to drop tables, and customer data. Then use phpAdmin to add these tables to the new database. Does anyone have any better ideas? I tried installing it over the existing version, and I am getting all kinds of messed up error messages. ------------------------ Chief Web Developer http://Canfone.com https://SecureLogoHosting.com
