Has anyone created a theme with the basic products tree down the left-hand side?

If so, can you point me to a website that uses it?

Like to have categories  to the left on desktop on mobile to be horizontal drop down and text Only not accompanied by an image, only need images for Brands and actual products.

I did a quick theme to show how this is done. All of the themes that come with V4 have one block that contains everything. To have a left column, you need to change that to two columns. Then in the left column you can add the menu widget and adjust it as needed. The attached image shows the two columns with the menu in the left column.

I don't have a site with that layout. I realize what I showed is not very useful. It was just a quick theme with two columns. Here is a little better example.

I wish more templates were available, if there were I would have another look.
The below lay is similar to what I am seeking in a template. Yours is close.

V4 has a built-in template editor that is fairly easy to use once one becomes familiar with it. It wouldn't surprise me to see templates become available again like they used to be in the original V2 version.  So, If you don't have the time or inclination to learn it, which is the case with most shop owners, I think, then you will either need to wait for one to be made available or pay someone to create it for you. But like the templates of the previous version, I doubt that they will be free, though that is just my opinion.

So do I and that layout would suit me also.

This page provides the basic details. But then you have to experiment with it to become proficient.

Create new theme.

 set out your widget blocks

assign your widgets to the blocks

configure your widgets

Early days but feel like I have made some serious progress.

so you  based on this  image:-

header with account details

then an ad banner

a block set out as 1/4 3/4

in the 1/4 section  categories, brands etc

3/4 side Categories widget and set to how many in total to display, by how many columns in each row.

should get you close. attached screen shot shows a very rough layout.

@MadWayne I have not got version 4 installed anywhere to play at the moment, but are you saying this was fairly easily to achieve using the template creator

I won’t say it was easy to work out what to do and haven’t looked  at the guide yet, but getting there and it’s now getting easier.

However for the categories and brands create a Menu

then in the theme editor add a menu widget and then alter the widget to contain the menu you created by name.

I keep going resetting and restarting again to see if I am understanding, given this thread you can see how long it’s taken me to get this far. But now I can recreate within minutes.

Think I need a better hosting package mind as occasionally it throws errors, but these appear to be due to the system catching up rather than an actual fault.

Also I know regularly use the cache control and reset every time I want to view the website created. again can see delays which aren’t long but appears to be resource issues.

The watch set across the right is the categories widget

If I understand what you are saying, the problem is that the list is showing horizontally. If that is correct, click the edit button for that widget and change it to show vertically.

The issue is where it gets the list of categories from for that widget.

Category 1 and 2 are my data and the watch etc is existing data think I have got round this.

Also some strange behaviours with respect to how these things appear to be assigned and not sure if that's a resource thing and it struggling allocating.

However, having hell on with osc4 at the minute think its a resource issue as everything has slowed down and thats creating other issues, so going to wipe and start again in an hour or so when things have calmed down.

Will have something later to show I hope....

It comes from the Design and CMS->Menus. Be sure to click the tab for the sales channel you are working on. You can then create a new menu or copy and existing one.

Hmm yes I fell foul to that very early on.

However, I need to find out why the options are changing.

Its hard to explain but when I restart from scratch to see if I can under stand what I am doing, some times the options dont appear to be the same.

Its like I am going mad.........

for example now the category 1 and catergory 2 in a menu, shows up with a little black box (bullet point) in front of each category.

before I could change between default and builder and builder turned it off so no bullet point, first time its ddone that and I think i know why but starting again will confirm this. Just not sure why these things are happening as I cant see any logic for it, other than one ofthose days,

@MadWayneI haven't seen that problem so I can't even guess at the cause. Maybe a team member will reply. But I wonder if it because you are not saving the changes before switching to a different section? After making a change, try clicking on the Backup button while on the theme page to see if that helps. If the change is saved, you can restore that backup to start from where you left off.

I didn't read the entire topic BUT I think this is what you are referring to

It is based on the WATCH theme. Needless to say there are many hours of trial and error to accomplish BUT it accomplishes what I needed and wanted

BTW - this vsn in NOT active.  I am reworking from OSC Frozen this is our future look...
