Help to update data to a new field

Hi,

 

I have added a new field in table Order_history_status.

 

i want the customers to input data into the new field from checkout_shipping page...i want to display the new field before or after comments text area.

 

Can any one help me in putting code together to insert the delivery date data to the table.
