Guest
I know this is going to be long, but please bare with me... I am trying to set up oscommerce to handle multiple stores, and with multiple stores, lots of shipping options. I am going to need to set different shipping options for different stores, and I'm even going to need seperate shipping options on some individual items. Some examples: one store may not keep inventory, so it's only shipping option for all items will be drop shipping from manufacturer. Another store might be a nursery, so most (but not all) of its products can only be delivered locally, and only by that store's trucks (no ups). Although there is development of oscommerce virtual malls, I don't think anything is quite ready for use. For now I am planning on making the top level categories seperate stores. This is nice because the customer can shop at all stores and only check out once. I am the only one entering products, so seperate stores don't need seperate accses right now. Being able to limit access by category would be nice though. The only problem I've found with the category approach is that if two stores carry the same item, it can be difficult to figure out which store a customer ordered from. The dirty fix to this is to just add initials for the store to the end of the products Model. Is there anything terribly wrong with running a virtual mall this way? Shipping looks like it is going to be a major problem. All the shipping options seems very global and rigid, and I need something very local and flexible, similar to permisions in unix. It would be really nice if I could set shipping options individually for each product from where I add and edit the product (check boxes). It would also be great to be able to add new shipping options to groups of products. For instance, if one store wanted to use one shipping table, and another store wanted to use a seperate table. All of this would be helpful, but is not necessary; however, I do need at least be able to set shipping options individually. Is this possible? Another shipping option that I need is local delivery. Is there a contribution for this? I did not see any. It should be possible to have a module only allow local delivery to addresses within a certain radius. Of course, this would need to interface with something like map quest and might be a little slow. Is there anything like this out there, or any interest in a module that would do this? Any ideas, suggestions, or comments? Although it is dirty, I think the way I am setting up the virtual mall will be fine. I am definately running into snags on shipping. If any of my ideas could spawn contributions, I can help program, especially on the local delivery. I really need to get the shipping working soon. Any input is greatly appreciated. Guest
Along these lines, some one might want to be able to control payment options on an individual product basis, especially for virtual malls. An example would be a store that will do local delivery for certain items, and except payment on delivery. Is there anything that can handle this or anything being developed? Guest
Sorry to keep bringing this up, but I really need help. I at least need to be able to change shipping options for individual products. Does anyone know of anyway to do this? I really, really need to do this, and I greatly appreciate any help.
Daemonj
Have you tried defining different tax or shipping zones for the products?
