Shipping cost per item

Hi All

Is there a simple way to ammend the shipping costs associated with a specific item. For example, one of my products will be Small Stickers... now I don't want to charge the same amount for shipping these items as say a polo-shirt... how do I set/fix the shipping price on a specific item>?

Thanks

In shipping their are many ways to set prices, different shipping ways, look in your cart, shipping and decide what to do.

  • I will do thanks... but perhaps I didn't explain my requirement sufficiently enough; I can only see the following shipping types

Flat Rate: a fixed amount per every order - same amount for every order

Per Item: a fixed amount per every item - same amount for every item regardless of size/weight of item

Table rate: variable rate per number if items ordered by price or by weight

UPS and US systems: Postal service in the USA or UPS service

What I am after is a variable rate per each item. Is there a way to make the amount charged for delivery of items linked to the specific item. So, customers can buy 1 item, if that is a heavy, XXL SweatShirt, this amount charged will be the same even if the customer purchased a small case sticker. The cost me would be different i.e. XXL PoloShirt maybe = ?1.50, a small sticker = UK postage (30p) and I don't think that is fair to my customers, hence my request.

I can see perhaps how this could be done via a table pricing structure based on weight, so maybe that's the way to go. But as I'm not familiar with the intricacies of osCommerce just yet I thought I'd ask the experts. :)

Can I ask.... we all know it is difficult to read 'body language' on the net, but do I detect an undertone that you're somewhat annoyed with something I've done!!

That's generally how people do it. Here is a contribution that does this in a more general fashion, if table shipping doesn't help you.

Isn't that what the forum is for...?

Yes!

Questions are what the forums are for... and a place of learning. Learning will progress over time, as you become more familiar with concepts and codes osCommerce uses.

As for questions, I have a few statements on them:

The only stupid question is the question you don't ask!

I'd rather look the fool for 5 minutes, than a fool forever!

This one is so true. If you don't take the oportunity to find the answer to a question you have, then you will continue to not know the answer forever!

Well said Tony.... and thank you :)

I'm the one in the room who will always ask the questions everyone else is afraid to ask...:)

Cos as you rightly point out, if you don't ask, you'll never know...
