I have located the file I need to edit, to change the Title, but it has a banner at the top of the page that says " Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /hsphere....

Where do I set the persmission?

The permission is set on your server.... use your control panel, or your FTP program

I have gone to the control panel.

If I select File Manager - I can get to the 4th subfolder mywebsite.com but there are not any subfolders.

I can locate the rest of the subfolders if I go to the control panel and click on Web Protect. I tried adding my self as a user to each subfolder and giving permission - same problem.

As I was writing this I was trying things I tried before. This time when I connected with ftp instead of going into hsphere folder I went into my webpage.com folder and the rest of the files were there.

Thank you!

That didn't work quite so well.

I connected with ftp - opened the file, copied it, opened Frontpage, pasted in the html, made changes and then saved the file english.php.

Now nothing is working right.

Is there a place to restore the page and how can I edit it.

Restore from your backup  ... you did backup didn't you? :?

You can use your FTP program to upload a new file... dunno exactly what version you are running..... ..... if you need to you can download the package again....

I use Ultraedit...... I believe you are trying to change the way osC looks... there is good info here on how to do it:

BACKUP!????

Yes I am trying to edit the osC looks and I found the article at http://wiki.oscommerce.com but I don't know how to edit the files.

What is Ultraedit? Can you use Word, Frontpage etc.?

I did find a english.php from the install and tried to replace it. Some of the things came back and others for instance - It had that standard message about being a demonstation online shop, now above it says "TEXT_GREETING_PERSONAL" Some of the other boxes are this way.

When your page displays something like "TEXT_GREETING_PERSONAL", you can be sure that the define is missing from the relevant language file... you cannot just delete defines, but you can leave them blank, eg.

define('TEXT_GREETING_PERSONAL', '');

Ultraedit is a text editor designed specifically for programming.... it has neat features like syntax highlighting (different colours) - this makes reading your code much easier, FTP functions etc. There are many editors out there like this....

Do NOT use Word..... if you must, Notepad is fine.
