Guest Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 haven't been able to locate a discussion on this but a customer wants to make shipping insurance a customer choice .. the contribution here http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ions,1069[/url] clearly states that it does not allow for this ... so ... would it be possible to create a coupon/voucher code that added to the order total instead of subtracting from it ? We would ultimately like to use real coupons as well so having a plus and minus potential is important. thanks in advance
Guest Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 You could create an item called "insurance" and have it automatically added to the cart with a message that the customer can delete it if they do not want insurance. That's an easy fix
Guest Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 .. we had thought of that however the owner of the store wants the insurance based on order total .. so we thought of making attributes for the product 'insurance' to accomplish this (the customer would choose the amount of insurance) and we were going to link to the insurance product from the checkout_shipping.php but he said no... he doesn't want it to be a seperate item that they have to add or modify once in the cart .. just a ck box on checkout_shipping.php :( My personal thought is that of the creator of the current insurance contribution .. make them buy the insurance because if something happens during shipping it will be $ out of the store owner's pocket not the customer. thank you for your suggestion :)
Guest Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 I do not give anyone a choice and I recommend to all my clients that insurance should never be optional. As the sender, the truth is that if you choose not to insure it, despite thoughts to the contrary - you are obligated to resend it or refund the customers money. With CC companies and Paypal and such they usually want proof of delivery. As a former bank officer I can tell you that 90% of merchants with "lost in the mail" issues always lost. You could look at one of the other mods that give options for the fees and see how that is called and duplicate or modify to see if will call insurance.
