edbrown
I currently run several Actinic ecommerce sites and a client has asked me to investigate OsCommerce vs Actinic for running on a Hostway account. As far as I can tell Hostway provides PHP4 and MS SQL on Windows Servers which seems to rule out OsCommerce. Has anyone any experience with comparing Actinic and OsCommerce and whether or not it can be run on a Hostway hosted solution? Beyond this there are many questions about shipping zones, tax zones, etc for international use which anyone trading in the Uk could probably answer regarding EU, USa taxes, and shipping. Many thanks in advance for anyinsights. Ed Brown www.go-britain.com
edbrown
I forgot to say that I'm also interested in peoples experience of using UK hosted credit card processors with OsCommerce. Ed Brown www.go-britain.com
Guest
You need mySQL. MSQL won't work. Period. Either stick with what you have (which I've heard is crap compared to OSC - never bothered to use it since OSC is all I need and more), convince your host to install mySQL (should take them a whopping 5 minutes), or move to a real host (aka a host that uses a real OS...*nix  )
edbrown
Thanks for the input. I may be able to persuade them to install mySQL, they're fairly flexible but the other item in the equation would be Apache. Is this a requirement as well or can the MS offering be used. BipolarChucker
TBH I don't know much about web hosts cos I host all my own sites myself. Sorry but no commercial advertising except via PM if user ask for it!
