Marc Dietzschkau Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Hi, I'm new to osCommerce and right now evaluating, what kind of shop fits our needs best. We have an existing website and want to integrate some features of the shop right there (login, cart, new products, etc.) without redesigning the whole site. Is there a more or less easy way, to use the modules of osc independently from the "real shop". ? I would like to have the sop running in the backgorund and just use the modules as needed on my site. Thanks for your help, Marc

rodsmith Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I too am new to investigating osCommerce and am evaluating the benefits. My deployment needs are pretty basic; although those requirements continue to grow. Any suggestions would be great! Warm Regards, Rod Smith http://fcpaparts.com http://www.r2.com
Ben Nevis Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 To a certain extent, you can choose which features you want to use in osC and which not, but you can't just pull out some files and say 'I'll use those' and leave other ones out. It's a complete program with lots of interdependent files, and maintaining the session id throughout the whole shopping process is very important to it working. You can't just mix in html pages with the database-driven shopping part. If you want a shop, you need the whole shop even if you don't use all of it, and depending on what you want to sell and how you want to sell it, you may need to add additional contributions too. The front end can be customised to fit with the look of an existing site, that may or may not be easy depending on many factors, one thing that makes it more difficult than it should be is the use of infinitely nested tables on many front-end pages. The good thing is it doesn't cost anything (except your time) to get it, play around with it, and see whether it can meet your need. www.jyoshna.com. Currently using OsC with STS, Super Download Store, Categories Descriptons, Manufacturers Description, Individual Item Status, Infopages unlimited, Product Sort, Osplayer with flashmp3player, Product Tabs 2.1 with WebFx Tabpane and other bits and pieces including some I made myself. Many thanks to all whose contributions I have used!
