Is osCommerce back end properly safe and secure? What does it exist for?

osCommerce is very much dependant on the back end. Everything that is available in the front end, everything that happens behind the curtains is managed and configured from the back end.

Access to the back end is safe and secure. Users are asked to enter their login (email) and password to access their personalised version of the back end. Users have default roles (set of permissions) and it is also possible to override permissions on a per-user level. Depending on the permissions, users will be able to utilise their special set of functions, and have access to their particular part of the website / database.

2 factor authentication can be enabled to enhance the security further. Then users will receive a special randomly generated key either via email or text. That key will be required to enter the system.

Why is it amongst the reasons to switch to osCommerce? Simply because not all Ecommerce solutions offer this flexibility with back end user accounts and security as does osCommerce.
