osCommerce-Official Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Day 3 of 20, writing down my thoughts of why Ecommerce businesses shall consider switching to osCommerce. Today I'll share my thoughts of how fast, robust, and capable osCommerce really is. Disclaimer here - certainly speed and performance depend on the power of the Web server, not just the system itself. So one shall consider choosing the right configuration for their Web server to run an Ecommerce business. However it shall be noted osCommerce gives better results than, say, Magento, on the same configuration. So, how fast is osCommerce and what can it do? If we take Google Page speed test as a measure of speed, osCommerce always comes in the "green". This means it is optimised to produce pages quickly and those pages load quickly in the user browser. On the server side it is about the optimised database, and scripts. On the browser side, it is about the page size, structure, size of extra files (like images), etc. How capable is osCommerce? We tested it on real business websites. Many times. So it can hold about 1,500,000 pruducts in the database and work nicely providing excellent user experience. In another example, we had over 1,000,000 customer accounts in the database, again without it being slow. Finally, we had a website with up to 5,000 daily orders at peak times, and it worked simply beautifully. Can osCommerce do even better? If course it can! It is designed to support small, medium, large, and global international operations. Depending on the task, a hosting solution can be designed for it to deal with more load if required. And if you simply use a virtual private server (VPS), it will still work nicely for you.
