ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

Hi,

I have a v2.3.4 installation.

It was under a domain (for example www.test.com) and I now moved it to a different domain but under a folder (for example www.test.com/shop). Front end works just fine, but when i try to access the backend i am getting a ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS error.

Any idea what i might be doing wrong?

I am also attaching the configuration file of the admin side, without the database credentials for obvious reasons.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The file to examine would probably be your .htaccess

Thanks for the reply. Both .htacess files are empty. what should exist inside?

Redirect rules are normally put in the .htaccess file in the root of the shop. Your problem is too many redirects, but it is really difficult for anyone to say where the redirect might be. Could also be in your shop code depending on what you have going on.

BTW your shop is located in the folder called shop and maybe you checked there for the .htaccess, but the .htaccess at the root of your domain could also be affecting the shop folder, so you may want to check there as well.

There are mistakes in the configure file but you posted an image so I can't quote them, Please post the actual text.

The entrance page for your site is showing this error

That's due to the php version you are using. Are you sure the php version you are using is supported by your shop?

When I try to visit your admin I get redirected to here. Where is that coming from? You may be seeing a conflict due to different passwords set for different directories? Try renaming the .htaccess in your admin to see if you can get in. Only do this for a quick test and remember to rename it back afterwards. Can you get in?

Hi,

The redirection was due to some code i added based on the user's IP. If the ip was not in my list then user would be redirected to that maintenance page. I removed that now.

In regards to the PHP version. I was using 7.3. I reverted back to 5.6 but again the same. So I think PHP version is not the issue here.

temporarily remove all .htaccess files, clear the browser cache and see if that resolves the issue. You could have 3x .htaccess files, one at the domain root, one in the shop folder, and one in the shop/admin/ folder.

Wordpress sites often have a lot going on in the .htaccess that could affect subfolders.

Backup the files before removing them so that you can copy them back in their respective locations.

Tried that now. Actually i only removed the two .htaccess files under 'shop' folder, as wordpress requires that in order to load all pages.

Result for the OsCommerce site is the same unfortunately.

Since you already compromised your admin location you may want to rename the folder again. You may then find that you could get in. There may be a redirect set in the root .htaccess of the wordpress site, you can post the contents of that here if you want.

I tried renaming the admin folder of OsCommerce before, but without any luck. There is no reference of the admin folder (n3t1nf0) in the WordPress root .htacess file. I am however placing its contents below. Thanks

I assume that is the old domain. Where did you specify the redirect from old -> new domain ? Must be the .htaccess in the shop folder.

Click on Weber BBQs category in your new domain, that redirects to the old domain.

I just did the changes in the configuration.php files. Nothing else. As mentioned already, both .htaccess files are empty now.

If your shop folder htaccess is really empty then the redirects must be coming from your code files and then it will be impossible for us to see where.

In your shop you have 2 categories; Brita and Weber BBQs, the latter redirects to the old domain, which also suggests that you may have php edits somewhere in your files.

I added a redirect rule in cloudflare for when someone visits the url for category weber. That's why. The old domain was britacyprus.com

If you have not already, please do a Google search for "oscommerce err_too_many_redirects"

There are a number of threads about this problem, that could give you the solution you are looking for.

Your scenario has evolved to be more complex than we originally thought. As I understand it, you have a WP site with osC nested in a folder called store, running on PHP 7.3 (which is not the right version for your osC site considering the error message that Jack mentioned earlier), you are using a CDN, and have a different redirecting domain name/url for one of your product categories.

Hi guys,

After a lot of efforts and tests, I created the subdomain https://shop.apltd.com.cy/ and placed the OsCommerce website under it.

Backend works just fine this way. For some reason I had to avoid including the osc website under a folder in the root. Really don't know why and i bet that i am not the only one who attempted this.

I also removed the website from cloudflare but that did not help.

If someone manages to resolve this, please let me know how. I am very interested to know.

Thanks again for all the time and efforts you put on this fellas. Truly appreciate it.

There's nothing to resolve. It is a very common thing to have such a setup. The problem is only with your setup but without being able to see the files, all we can do is guess. But since using a subdomain will not trigger redirects for the main domain name, it seems most likely that the cause is in how you have the .htaccess files setup, as already mentioned.
