Gift vouchers

Recommended Posts

Gift Vouchers come pre-built with osCommerce v4.

Set possible gift voucher values in the back end:

The gift vouchers are available for purchase in the front end at the following URL:

/catalog/gift-card

and look like this:

Once purchased (via normal shopping cart / checkout process for "virtual" products), gift vouchers come to the recipient's email address as unique code that can be redeemed by the user in the front end and used during checkout as a payment method.

Very few of our clients use gift vouchers.

Most use the oscommerce add on that has coupons and gift vouchers combined. But they do not use the gift vouchers component.

Coupons are there of course, but some clients do indeed like to sell gift vouchers, hence this feature and easy way of managing gift vouchers

Sure thing. It tapped into the CCGV contribution and used the following workflow:

  1. Mail GV, sent single email to an admin account.
  2. Login to customer account and redeem the GV code.
  3. GV can be retrieved from GV Sent landing page or the admin's email, and the landing page also provides an audit trail.

This assume an already working GV module, and it by passed the GV queue and release steps from the original contribution. Further automation should be possible, but the implementation was quick and painless for small stores which has the need to provide store credits.

I have to agree the GV purchase offer wasn't very popular for small/medium stores, and if there were a demand for it it would probably be better off partnering with Visa/MC and offering/selling their gift CC I would think.

Oh, the customers can also see the available store credit from the account dropdown (additional hack, the store was also integrated with an ERP, which provided a pdf credit invoice under order history/status).

Hello all,

Perhaps I missed it, but I am wondering if an existing live osC v2.3.4.1 shop can be upgraded to V4?

See the first post in this thread:

How much work would be required to migrate from the 2 series to V4 remains to be seen, because not much has been revealed about the code or new database structure in V4. I think Vadym (osCommerce-official) did mention that there would be an upgrade script, but this would presumably be for a stock installation of osC 2.
