Typical "How to" questions

(Should this be somewhere else ?)

I am now trying to install 4.12 on a Windows machine with Apache 2.4 and PHP 8.1
It is hanging at step 2, unpacking.
Doesn't fail the page, just sits there with the spinner going.

I have found many posts on this subject but all from nearly 20 years ago!

Can anyone help me with 2023 issues ?

It may be that the cause is Windows Zip Is Rubbish.

Tests:
I unzipped the app files zip on local linux, it took seconds.
I used jar-xf on my local windows box and it took ~5 minutes to unpack.

The Extract Files on the remote windows box is still going, it's been ages!! At 42% and claims 55 minutes to go !

How to...
so how to mamually edit the html for the themse? the built in theme editor needs a lot of work from what I can see - have messed about with it for close on a week now and have yet to manage to edit any part of a theme (built in one 7 a blank created test theme)...
On the older 2.3 versions you could just edit the template html/css directly and publish ..  so where is the html hidden? has to be somewhere ...
and what on earth happened to the old forums? All the old plugins? has something like nearly 15+ years worth of resources just been wiped? can't find an archice anywhere even ?

liking the idea of the new system and still poking about but without a definitive - this is how to do xxx which I could literally find an answer to on the old forums in minutes without even having to ask a question i'm sadly going to have to look to another solution...that would be a shame as i've used oscommerce now for a good few years...

"How to" get phone and email icons into header?

I'm modifiyng forniture theme but I would like to have phone and email contacts like those of print shop theme. I tried to export the contact widget from print shop theme and import into the forniture theme: I always see Phone but not icon at all. 

I don't manage to understand where to edit class= "phone-title"

Hi Chiara,

There is no standard way to do it. It is necessary to edit styles and to write down something like:

.phone:before {

  content: '\f095';

  font-family: FontAwesome;

}

 

If you PM me with the login details to the admin area of your website we should be able to do it for you.

This may not answer your question but those are unicode values for font-awesome icons.  You can look at the class that has the code and change it to a new one found on the font-awesome site. The mentioned code is for a phone icon.

While installing osCommerce v4 there is the option that allows you to add the demo products to your website to see how they are set up there. Or you can add your own products to your website after you install osCommerce v4.

We checked and the reason why you face this issue is that the development mode is activated on your front end. Please see the screenshot below. In order for your sitemap to work please deactivate this development mode.

I turned off the Development Mode as you suggested. the sitemaps did appear to be created (see graphic) HOWEVER I am now presented with a small dilemna - 

The creation indicates the files and directory to downlad them from.  Neither the files nor the directories were actually created and thus this message.

DOES using a self signed certificate (for development purposes) PREVENT them from being created? My admin directories are shown in the second graphic.  The admin direcory is 755 owned by user www-data.www-data as are ALL direcotries associated with the new store.  The only cause for non creation I can think of is the self signed certificate.

Yes, downloding from the admin area does not work because of the self signed certificate.

But everything is accessible from the front end. Please see the screenshots below.

THANK YOU - I thought that was likely the case; but was uncertain.

I am such a fool, in that I didn't even think about trying to highlight the URL portion and opening in a new tab.  Sometimes I can't see the forect for the trees.  Although I must admit that I was unaware of the real culprit and cause of my original issue - the "Development Mode" factor.

I am wondering how can I add the add to Wishlist button? I have checked the box here in the product listing widget but it does not show on the page. I tried it on the Homepage, on all products page, on categories page. I checked everywhere and it does not display the button. There is integrated in the theme a wishlist page where the authenticated user can go to see his list so Im guessing it should work and the button should be present somehow. What do I have to look for so I can fix this error?

This button is displayed on the product listings and for the logged in users only.

Also could you please confirm if you installed this module yet?

You can find the following options regarding the customer details under Settings - Configurations - Customer details:

/admin/configuration/index?groupid=BOX_CONFIGURATION_CUSTOMER_DETAILS

 

 

You can specify what fields are mandatory or not, the length and the complexity of the password and so on. 

 

There are also Shipping Customer Details and Billing Customer Details requirements under Settings - Configurations tabs.

 

There are also minimum/maximum values parameters:

/admin/configuration/index?groupid=BOX_CONFIGURATION_MINIMUM_VALUES&row=0

/admin/configuration/index?groupid=BOX_CONFIGURATION_MAXIMUM_VALUES&row=0

 

You can specify the minimum/maximum values parameters regarding the customer name, surname, address, telephone and so on.

I looked at all the settings you mentioned and now I got the validation working to my liking. The only thing I want to add to it is the address to have at least one numeric character. Is this configurable?

It is only possible to set up the minimum number of characters for address.
