Guest Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Hi I've been trading online for some time now, about 9 months, online sales are going well but I currently use WorldPay to process all my online payments, however I noticed that HSBC have started offering a new payment processor service, its with a real internet merchant account and to my surprise it seams I'm eligible for the programme. However looking through the contributions I notice that theres no contribution for this particular payment option, I was quite surprised at this as this seams like a great option and am surprised that no one else uses this option. Its for this reason I'm guessing that its a new service as when I approached HSBC some time ago they were very stand-off-ish about the whole online processing for such a young company. My only problem now is getting a contribution to work with their gateway, I'm very new to php and wondered how hard this would be to do. HSBC have supplied all their requirements and commands to communicate with their site, my only problem is integrating this with OSC. I was hoping to use another contribution and modify it, however after taking a look at the coding in the mod it really doesnt look quite that easy. If anybody else uses this service any advice on how you integrated it would be great, if no one else uses this its well worth taking a look if your in the UK, they may even have it in other countries too? Anyway if anybody is able to offer any advice, interested on working out a contribution for this payment processor please post any replies here. Thanks Andy
Guest Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Hi Andrew, Do you have a link with more details? Any addition to the UK feeble selection of payment gateways has got to be welcome.
Guest Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi Not a problem follow this link http://www.ukbusiness.hsbc.com/code/tools/...ss&toolName=bhp and select on secure epayments. you can also phone them on this number for epayment enquiries : 0845 758 5150 Hope this helps Andy
Guest Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Its definately a new service. I looked at there website just a few weeks ago & didn't see any mention of it! I've had a look at their demos & it looks good. They don't give any details on charges for online transactions, so it would be dependent on how they compared with, eg worldpay, but if they're competetive I'd be willing to chip in with a donation for whoever comes up with a contribution for them. Might be worth looking through the other payment modules to see if one of them could be adapted? My knowledge of php isn't up to doing it myself, but I'll help out with testing it.
Guest Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Well I was pleasantly surprised when they quoted me 3.06% for both the processing fee and the payment gateway, as a current WorldPay user at the standard 4.5% I know this works out very competative  , especially in the UK market place. Andy
Guest Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Well I was pleasantly surprised when they quoted me 3.06% for both the processing fee and the payment gateway, 8) dare i hope the setup & annnual fees arre equally good? lynda (typng left handed with grumpy toddler on knee, so please excuse typos  )
Guest Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I believe its about ?100 setup fee and I dont think there is any annual fee but I've got a meeting with the area manager tomorrow so will find out all the details soon. I've taken a look at a few payment contributions but I think its a little beyond my php abilities, we may need to find somebody willing to modify a script for us? maybe we could club together and offer a donation but if its as good as it seems I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of UK stores wanting to use it soon. I'll post the details as soon as I find out. Andy
Salvo Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I have just been in a HSBC bank and got a business pack. I mentioned what my intentions were (internet and acceptance of CC) and the person in there said: no problem. look a the pack and arrange a meeting. So I presume that they are up and running. I haven't see the fees yet, but I would like to know all the ins and outs... "the small print" Thanks
pjones Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I've been using this for about 3 weeks and it's a big improvement over our Visa terminal. It offers CVV and address verification which the swipe terminal doesn't provide. Like everyone else, I'd be glad to see a module written for this.
Guest Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 It looks like we are going to use this service and I'll have to write a module, I'm now waiting for HSBC to supply all their requirements. Nevertheless, as HSBC are going to make 3.06% from my code I think it's only fair I get a little bit of the action, hence I'm having talks with them. Anyway, want I'm asking is how many people would want the module? And how many of them would pay for the integration?
Daemonj Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 I started to develop a payment module for them a few months ago due to a request by someone in the Seeking Commercial Help section. Their client backed out of the contract and the module was never completed. I hope their support for this service has improved as I went through 4 phone calls and 7 reps and still was never able to get in touch anybody that could help with the technical details. Guest Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 I've got the spec and have started but HSBC don't want the code!! If nobody does I'll stop work? Ben
Salvo Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 Ben, what do you mean? HSBC don't want to osc to use a module with their product?
Guest Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 I for one would REALLY appreciate the efforts put into the module. It would be great for all osc users!
Daemonj Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 I will see if I can get the information that is needed from HSBC and finish the payment module up. I am pretty busy with a few clients at the moment but I should be able to have it completed early next week (depending upon how long it takes to get answers from HSBC). Guest Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Any news yet? I've found HSBC support ok try them +44 116 281 8548, they make you use cgi or java. If you use java try http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.java.php I'm using the c code mainly to protect my IP Ben P.S. If you want to beat the 3.00% ring Mayuri Bhalsod and let her know your using OSC as more people use the ePayments we will get a group discount! :D
Guest Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 Can anyone who has been in touch with HSBC tell me how long it took for them to get back to you with a quote? thanks
Guest Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 I've also been in touch with HSBC re: this service. Firstly they've been proactive in dealing with our initial application (albeit we've been banking with them offline for over a year). I'm meeting with them over the course of the next week so I'll post any quotes etc. If anyone on this thread needs me to get hold of technical contacts to advance the integration with Osc I'm only too happy to help. GW.
Daemonj Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 Does anyone have a link or have a document available regarding how to communicate with HSBC to process transactions? Unfortunately I deleted all of the information that I had. :( "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. Guest Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 If anyone is interested, HSBC's Secure ePayment contact details are as follows: 0116 281 8548, or by email at [email protected] GW
Daemonj Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Thanks for the eMail link. :) As I am based in the US that would be one heck of a long-distance phone call! Especially considering that with banks you typically have to go through 3 people before you actually get to the person you really need to speak with. I have sent an eMail to them seeking the necessary information and report back the results. "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. snkhan Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Hi, The 0116 numebr means its in Leicester! Wow. Since I'm in Leicester wouldn't it be easier for me to go there in person and talk to them? I could then email you the necessary info. Just email me the letters and I'll arrange a meeting. Does anyone know brach we're talking about? Thanks, saj I didn't do it!
Daemonj Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I have a question for everyone in the UK. According to the HSBC API documentation, everyone in the UK pays in Pound Sterling while everyone else in Europe pays in Euro. Is this true or will customers in the UK sometimes pay in Euro?
