jonah Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 Just curious if anyone else is using OSCommerce without using the shopping cart. I know it seems as though it doesn't make sense to disable the main feature of OSC, but with the right mods it makes a good looking website with plenty of features. Just another use of a great product!
loxly Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Was working on it but don't have time right now, are you doing something along those lines? I'd like to see. [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
jonah Posted July 1, 2003 Author Posted July 1, 2003 I have a site set up now with the shopping cart disabled. Since I sell hosting I use modernbill to accept payments and sign up new subscribers. As much as I like OSC the shopping cart wouldn't have been very well suited for this. I originally thought that it would have been difficult if not impossible to disable it. It turned out to be rather easy and I accomplished it in a weekend. Although the cart is still there all links to it have been removed. If you would like to see the site just click my WWW link below.
VJ Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 It's almost embarrassing to admit, but I too use osc without a shopping cart, in one of my sites. In fact, I've also almost disabled all of the existing admin section and database. I just retained some of the function and class files, and the osc directory structure. I'm pretty happy with that setup, though. Works nice for me. Just seems to prove that even a bare-bones osc can do the trick :-). VJ
