trying to figure out table rate and how to modify, but here is what i would like to do:

 

i want to ship in u.s. and worldwide. i want it to be based on weight. additional items added to cart would be an added fee, but the amount would be less than if ordered alone.

 

example: giftcertificate = zero weight = no charge. book weighting 1lbs $4.50. total shipping for order $4.50

 

example 2: book 1 lbs = $4.50. total $4.50 shipping

 

example 3: book 2 lbs = $5.50 total shipping = $5.50

 

important example: book 1lbs + book 2 lbs = $4.50 for first item + $2.00 additional item (2 lbs book)= $6.50

 

any ideas? also is there a place to help me better understand the table calculations? my understanding is 25:8.50 is 25 lbs is $8.50. i tried to insert 0:0.00 for gift certificate, but it added on $8.50 so i'm missing something.
