Catalog Index page from scratch & Importing Functionalit

Hello. Having finally managed to install and configure osc, the real

challenge begins..

I want to build a new catalog index page based on my sites template page and

import the following functionality:

1. opportunity for the customer to go to 'my account'

2. Opportunity for the customer to access 'cart contents'

3. Opportunity for the customer to access 'checkout'

The customer needs to be able to access all three of the above regardless of what

page on the site he is currently on. The other features offered on the OSC standard

catalog index page ie. quickfind, specials, reviews, languages. are not of interest to me.

To give you a little background, i have developed the site using

Dreamweaver MX and my hard coding skills would not be the best. I am

currently reading a manual on PHP (but clearly am far from being competent)

TAKING THE ABOVE INTO ACCOUNT, I NEED YOUR VALUED SUGGESTIONS:

Q.1 Is there a tutorial out there somewhere that is close to what i am trying

to achieve? ie. setup a catalog index page from scratch.

Q.2 Have any of you out there hit this task at a time when you also

possessed such a basic skillset and how did you go about tackling it?

I knew before i started out that this wasnt going to be easy, but i also realise

how powerful a tool OSC can be once one has control of it - so

i wont be giving up on this one.

Your input <? here ?> would be greatly appreciated.
