glenda Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Hi! I know this question has been asked a few times before here in the forums, but I couldn't locate a solution. I would like the product options to show up as separate products with different model numbers on the product_info page. In other words, if there are 4 options I want there to be 4 "BUY NOW" buttons, similar to the product listing. Does anyone have any ideas? Or is there a contribution for this? Thank you. PS: I was thinking of just making each option a separate product and then making the subcategory page act as the product_info.php page. Does that make sense? This would cause a problem when customers search for products. What a pain :( Please help me! Mary
cgchris99 Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 This is one problem that has been discussed many times about oscommerce. There isn't an easy way to make a product model change based on a attribute. I too could use this option. I am surprised someone hasn't modified it to produce exactly what you are talking about. Your idea is the first one I have heard that sounds like a good possible option. Good luck and if you find a solution, please post it.
Guest Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I too am looking for the same thing although I would settle just for the attributes to have different model numbers. That alone would make me happy. Right now I will end up with thousands of items because 1 item has 8 or more options. It is a pain to create new ites each time and a pain to have the item with options/attributes but no item numbers to distinguish. Causes confusion in packaging dept.
Guest Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 there is a cross-sell module that you could tailor to your needs: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,334
glenda Posted June 26, 2003 Author Posted June 26, 2003 meltus: I tried looking at the demo for the cross-sell module to see if it is what I'm looking for, but the site is down. cgchris99: You can see what I have done using the subcategory page as the product_info.php on my temporary site...this link won't be good for long. http://www.plazmaart.com/rocknroll/default.php Mary
cgchris99 Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 glenda, I think I see what you did. It looks like a clean way to do it. How much work is it to setup this way?
glenda Posted June 26, 2003 Author Posted June 26, 2003 You simply use the subcategory page as the product page and make each option a separate product. I will eventually remove the links to the individual product_info page, because with this setup the product_info page is not needed. The customer simply adds to cart with the buy now button. The part I haven't figured out yet is how I should display the search results. As is is now, clicking on a product brings the customer to the product_info page. I need to be able to display the search results by category > subcategory and not have the actual products clickable. Does that make sense? I hope so. Any ideas on how to accomplish this would be great. I may start a new thread and title it accordingly. Mary
