Error: I can not write to this file.

I receive the following message when I try to edit any of the php files to change the way my site looks:

Please set the right user permissions on: /hsphere/local/home/domainname/domain.com/catalog/default.php

 

Being a new user, I think that the osCommerce program is a great addition to my web site if only I could get things to edit for me.

Where is the login for administrator rights so I could edit the default.php in the program or do i need to download it and possibly edit it in notepad or some other program.

 

Can you tell I'm a newbie....all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
