3. Please enter your database server information:

Database Server

The database server can be in the form of a hostname, such as db1.myserver.com, or as an IP address, such as 192.168.0.1.

###############

I have tried using 'localhost or 127.0.0.1 for the above, but am unable to connect to mySQL database that i am running locally with apache.

i receive the following error on the next page...

"""""""""""""""""

new Install

Step 1: Database Import

A test connection made to the database was NOT successful.

The error message returned is:

Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)

Please click on the Back graphic to review your database server settings.

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.

This will start the install script for osCommerce... click "new install">in the new page go directly to step 3. Under "Database Server" type in "localhost". Under "Username" type in "root". Leave the password field blank. Under "Database" type in the name of the database you previously created. Click "continue">click "continue" again - give it some time as it creates the tables in your database>click "continue" again>scroll to the bottom of the page and check the "Store sessions in the database" radio button>click continue.

which gave me......

The database import was successful!
