Guest Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Hello all, great forum here. I have an issue with the USPS modules in that it gives me the three rates I expect, but parcel post is a higher rate than priority mail in almost all cases when shipping anywherre but in my home state. I have done many differnt searches of this forum but am unable to find any info on this issue. Has anyone else who is using the USPS module (ms1-2.2) had this rate issue come up? Maybe it's right, but it just seems odd that standard postal rates are higher then priority mail. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks in advance.
mugitty Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Scott; You're right, it does seem strange, but I believe that in some lower weights (2, 3, 4 pounds) that is exactly what USPS rates work out to. You could check the software answers against the actual results at the USPS website to confirm this. ... if you want to REALLY see something that doesn't set up right out of the box without some tweaking, try being a Foster Parent!
Guest Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Thanks for the reply. I did call the USPS office and asked a couple questions. They say that depending on not only wieght, but pakcage size, whether it's machineable or not, and probably a miriad of other non human interaction factors, that priority can be less than parcel post in some if not most cases. Makes no real sense to me because if you take it to the post office it will cost less. Having said that, I guess that once they can see the package they can determine the handle-ability so they can charge accordingly. Life can be funny. So too can the USPS. Thanks for the help.
pbolyn Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 I just encountered this problem when I enabled USPS calculations for the first time. For a 1.5 lb package from zip 19403 to 18344, the USPS module reports: United States Postal Service (1 x 1.5lbs) Express Mail $17.85 Priority Mail $3.95 Parcel Post $4.88 The http://postcalc.usps.gov/ website gives the following: Express Mail Overnight to most areas $17.85 Priority Mail 1 Day(s) $3.95 Parcel Post 2 Day(s) $3.53 As expected, Parcel Post is the cheapest. Regardless of whether there are some obscure package size or weight or whatever condition on parcel post rates, the shipping module should be showing the SAME results that are obtained by accessing the USPS site manually. I believe there IS a bug somewhere. The interesting thing is that the $4.88 Parcel Post rate reported by the shipping module does not appear anywhere in the table of shipping costs obtained from the USPS web site. Phil
srarden Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 I see that this has been added to the bug list: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/bugs,963 Has anyone had any success in a fix for this that hasn't gotten it filtered back into the osCommerce forums, bug list, or team? Getting a site ready to go live and this is a major stumbling block for the client. Thank you!
