test server

If I have domain name with hosting company,

and I have test server with mysql at my home pc,

can I use same domain name to test at home, or would I have to change code to poing to localhost instead to domain name.

I think I saw somebody wrote that I should be able to trick my pc into thinking that this domain is hosted locally by changing computer name or smthng..

And if this is possible, how then I go to my real site once I change my pc to think it's hosted locally? I also have shared ip, so it's not the option to find it by ip address..
