cgchris99 Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 How much do you optimize you pictures sizes? The majority of mine are under 20k but I have a couple that are 30k Is that too big for Dialup? I haven't been on dialup for quite a while and wonder if my site is too slow. thanks for any advice
Guest Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 If your talking about a bigger image as opposed to a thumbnail I figure you can go to 50k, if you want. The golden rule still applies though smaller is better so don't give the customer more than they need. If its clear with reasonable detail they could be as small as 10k with jpeg compression check out the teapot when you click to enlarge its 12k and I think the image is ample. Guest Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I forgot to add that ofcourse your using one of the mod's so you can display a small image as a thumbnail (gif) and a larger image as the click to enlarge image (jpeg). I don't think anybody on this forum would use the standard set-up in 2.2 ms1 for dispalying images as it could take a while to download.
cgchris99 Posted June 19, 2003 Author Posted June 19, 2003 What kind of naming convention do you use to stay organized? Do you use subdirectories? Do you use med-xyzproduct.gif and sm-xyzproduct.gif and lg-xyzproduct.gif? Thanks for any more help
Guest Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I set up the three image mod but hacked it (I'm not a coder but sometimes you just do it!) so I just have thumbnails and large images therefore my nameing convention is simple tepot.gif..thumbnail, tepot_big.jpeg...large image.
