alfie romeo Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 just like to say i've already posted this on the chit chat forum. sorry for double posting but i think this would be better here and don't know how to delete the other one. Hello I have never before built a online shopping/ecommerce solutution but have been recomended this by many other forum users. What kind of skills will i need to implement this? Will the client be able to update their catologues themselves via CMS or will it always be down to me to update their products. Is there also some sort of back up device included with this product? i know it depends on hosts as to whether they back up their servers but i just wondered if this product itself could automatically download the MYSQL DB to you so you can back up regularly (bizarre question i know) Last question then: Do you have a list of approved hosts here in the UK who could help with setting up? thanks very much

wizardsandwars Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 It is generally considered appropriate for users of OCS to contribute something back to the community. Monetary contributions to the Dev team are always appreciated, and if you make any modifications the add additional functionality to the shop, you may want to consider releasing them to the community in the form of a contribution. Also, you should strongly consider keeping the "powered by OSCommerce" in the footer of your shop, with a link back here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. alfie romeo Posted June 19, 2003 Author Posted June 19, 2003 how much should you pay? i agree totally but have never used Open Source products before
wizardsandwars Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I usually give about $100 per year, dispersed through the members of the dev team that have helped me the most during the developement. You'll find several dev team members *very* helpful, and some of these guys (and gals) really put a lot of time into this little project. Your contribution, though, is entirely up to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.
