An 'undocumented' feature for adding product images?

I noticed that in the admin panel, you can not change the product_image by simply typing the name of the product's image file. If I do, it seems to create a new image file w/ 0 bytes. The only way to change this via the admin panel is to upload the image from my PC via the browse button. Has a fix ever come out for this or is this just an issue that I am encountering alone?

I'd like to be able to browse my PC or update the image via an existing image in my images directory, not just via my PC.

If this is an OSC 'bug', does anyone have a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you typing just the name or the full path starting with c: ?

As far as using existing images, it's a good idea to keep a copy of your store on your local computer anyway. Then you could get the images from your local copy. You still have to upload them though, which it would be nice to avoid. Another alternative to that is to edit products table using phpMyAdmin when you want to select an existing image.

In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.

Thanks for you response.

When I use the full path to my local PC, it works fine. I just realized that I cant select an image off my server via the admin. if you try it currupts the file.

It would be nice if you could do this via the admin panel and didn't have to use the database.

I was just wondering if this was changed in 2.2 or if anyone has developed a work around that involves the admin panel and not directly editing the database.

Check out the banners admin by editing a banner. There is a browse button for a new image, and a separate box to enter a banner path on the server. I guess that is the type of thing you would be after.

Now you seen it, you know what to describe in your feature request ;)
