Guest Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I did one store but it was awhile ago and I don't recall all that I did! So, if I may, two questions: 1. Where on the site is the documentation? That'd probably answer all my questions! 2. Since the client is waiting for a response, how do I go about entering her bank info for accepting credit cards. Thanks!
mdfst13 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 1. http://wiki.oscommerce.com 2. You might want to check out catalog/includes/modules/payment/cc.php Note that credit card processing will be done outside osCommerce, generally with one of the contributions. One needs to buy (or rent, e.g. PayPal) gateway software to support this. Good luck, Matt I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. ---Douglas Adams
Guest Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Thanks for the info. One more question now, would the credit card processing be something her bank would provide since she already acccepts credit cards at her physical store?
mdfst13 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 There are three separate parts in an online transaction: 1. The order taker (e.g. the osCommerce store). 2. The payment gateway (e.g. PayPal, ProPay, Authorize.net, etc.). This is what gets the authorization for the credit card. 3. The merchant account. This is what she gets from the bank now. She may or may not be able to use the same account. Many banks do not allow their merchant accounts to be used online due to the fraud issues. In particular, many banks require that a card either be swiped or imprinted. If I understand correctly, ProPay collects credit cards for manual entry. This may be the cheapest option *if* her bank's merchant account allows it. Note: using the merchant account for online transactions without the bank's support means that the bank will not provide support in the case of a chargeback. Instead, they will simply deduct the disputed amount from the account. To get paid, the merchant will then have to sue the customer (even if the merchant is entirely in the right). I mention this as a caution in case someone suggests just using ProPay. If you go that route, you need to involve the bank (or another merchant account provider). Hope this helps, Matt I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. ---Douglas Adams

Hope this helps, Matt Propay is awesome been using them for years. I have been through a few disputed chargebacks with them and they give you x-amount of time to file paperwork with them providing information on the claim. I had a few that said did not recieve items. They never contacted me. Propay sent me an e-mail asking me to send any information I had to them for the dispute. I sent them a letter explaining to them that I put insurance and tracking on all items. Tracking showed it was delivered and if they did not recieve it they need to file the insurance claim that was on the shipment. I won the claim and got my money. The only downfall that I see is they charge $400 / $200 a year to access their api to make it automated. This is now fixed. We released a contribution today for Propay that automates the credit card processing without having to pay them fees. The link is: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/6539
