bouncdchk Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I am getting the following error message at the top of the screen whenever the site loads: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/bb52/public_html/store/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. But I've checked ALL my permissions that I can tell. I've tried setting configure for read & write for Owner permissions only. Then RW for owner and group and also for owner, group and public. And several other varies and I STILL get the same message. I've checked the directories permissions and they all appear to be ok. Any ideas?
mdfst13 Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 444 is just read ® for everyone--just in case you are using an FTP client or something that does not support the numeric ownership properties. Good luck, Matt I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. ---Douglas Adams
bookseller Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, I am also getting the message. I have used the default installation on my desktop and then loaded the files on the webserver. Can someone help me fix this problem. I am not very familiar with php, some detailed instructions or a piece of copy and paste code will greatly help. Thanks

Can someone help me fix this problem. I am not very familiar with php, some detailed instructions or a piece of copy and paste code will greatly help. Thanks Hey BookSeller, I tried what they told me to do and it worked properly. I thought I had set it to that but for some reason it wasn't actually changing. I had to connect using my ISP's interface and have it change it. Thanks guys!!
ViolentForce Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 The only thing I want to know is if it is okay to leave the permission set at 444 when the install instructions specifically say to set it at 644? Does it really matter what it is set at?
Guest Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 The only time that it would cause a problem would be if you needed to change the configuration (which should *not* happen automatically as part of the normal operation of the store). At that time, you could make it writeable to make the modification. Good luck, Matt
AWWWW.WAHWAH Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I'm getting the same message at the top of my screen. I've tried changing it to 444 and 644 and the message is still there? I installed this once on another server and it went fine without a hitch following the wiki.oscommerce.com instructions. I moved to a different server and had to reinstall it and now can't get rid of the message. Any clues?
varnco Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 bouncdchk - Did you ever figure out the issue? I am having the same problem, I've done everything I can think, but no luck.
ICE9 Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 you need to chmod it 444, don't use ftp as it may change it back to 644
