ytbrad Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 os: redhat linux 7.3 apache + mysql + php+ sendmail + oscommerce the server becomes error when reboots and stops where this message is displayed. "INIT:version 2.84 booting " this problem is almostly happened once a week. I thought it was caused by the hard disk problem, but after I changed another hard disk the problem was still not resolved. and finally I changed another server, but the problem still happened. so I think there are something wrong with settings of Linux7.3 or mysql + php or apache or oscommers. can anybody help me?
Guest Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Do you have more than 1 OS system installed on this machine??? What bootloader are you using? If using GRUB try using LILO or vice versa. I had a similar problem once, turned out to be my power supply was failing. It could be many, many things. :(
ytbrad Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 There is only 1 OS system on the server . and I am using GRUB as the boot loader. if possible , could u please tell me some other possible reasons ? thanks for ur kindness.
Guest Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 It could be hardware conflicts, I had a problem with a server running a certain version (I don't remember which version) of php on redhat 7.3, it would always hang. Like I said, it could be MANY different things. First thing you may want to do is only use stable versions of all the software. Sometimes using the "newest version" is a bad thing. I can't get into everything that could be the problem here, as I am not a linux expert, and I pulled out all my hair trying to figure out my problem which turned out to be my power supply. (Puter worked fine in windows, but not linux). I don't have much more to add, maybe somebody else can elaborate a little more. Sorry :?
ytbrad Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 Thank u very much. Actually I am thinking whether it has something to do with OScommerce 's settings or not . Maybe there is something wrong with the settings just like log file of OScommerce My god! I am really exhausted by reintalling the server again and again!
edwrdam Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 "INIT:version 2.84 booting " means the kernel has finished booting and that init is starting to run. INIT is what controlls what starts at boot time, takes care of launching X and your login prompts (gettys). If you are dying there it's either a kernel panic that isn't being displayed for some reason. Or init is broken for some reason. Or you have some flaky hardware (nic/memory/cpu/mb/etc). If it's intermittent ... well I dunno.. I'd have to take a look really (hands on type of person). Do you have the latest RedHat 7.3 kernel installed? P.S. A problem like this would have NOTHING to do with the version of php/oscommerce/apache that you have installed.
ytbrad Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 thank u very much. I have tried to boot as single user mode, there is a failure message, "umounting initrd: failed" and stopped after the message " setting hostname XXXXX.com: ok "
