orchard Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I think the product images are downloaded at full size and then shrunk by the clients browser. To speed things up we shrunk our product images to the thumbnail size and got rid of click to enlarge. I think there is a contribution that allows you to have thumbnails and separate larger images. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.

Thanks for your reply! We do the same thing.. We don't have it setup where you click the thumbnail to enlarge the image, there is simply a thumbnail pic by the product name, then when you scroll down to view the product description, you notice the enlarged photo. Again, we compress each image we use before using them on the store.. I really don't know why it takes that long to load, and I would like to get whatever it is fixed.. I appericate everyones replies and suggestions.. Please keep them coming! Extreme Alterations
orchard Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 Your images seem to average about 10K and our's average about 3K. I'm not sure why since they are about the same size. We have our jpeg compression factor set at 50 in Paint Shop Pro when we save the jpegs. You're header file is about 50% larger than our's. The 72K Extreme Alterations Gaming Gear jpeg in the middle certainly isn't helping. You might want to cut down to 256 colors. This is combination with the jpeg compression factor reduced your ggad.jpg image from 72K to 15K and it looks about the same to me. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.
emiliano Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 great site!!! try to work out your images size.. and alsoyour header and footer height ( i think that they are much tall)... cheers emiliano patagonia, argentina

orchard Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 How can I do this with PhotoShop 6.0?I don't know. I can't afford it (or anything from Adobe) so I use Paint Shop Pro. In Paint Shop Pro the color count reduction is in the menus and the jpeg compression factor is an option in File->Save As. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.
Freedom Fighter Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 Thanks, I'll check into that similar option for PS 6.0 Thanks! Extreme Alterations
mattice Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Use Photoshops "Save For the Web" from the file menu. Choose JPG and it will show you the size /quality along with a slider so you can change it HTH Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
