Very Basic SSL Question

Hi

I know how to configure the basic site.Now I want to have SSL too.

My hosting service people gave me two folders httpdocs and httpsdocs.I want to know:

1.Where do I have to place the catalog(which has admin too) folder among the two to properly configure site with SSL.

2.Just enabling SSL and giving right paths on cofiguration page will do or am I suppossed to put some stuff in httpsdocs folder.

3.Normally people don't type https://www.---.com.So would they have to type https:// after I enable SSL or all the https stuff would be taken care of automatically.

4.How do I direct my www.----.com directly to point to the default.php in catalog.
