Guest Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Hi everyone, I just uploaded my first OSC site. Here it is: http://www.expressstamps.net Noticed I did not say it is finished, as I believe a site is always a work in progress. It is using the 5/18/03 snapshot and a bunch of mods - so many I can't name them all. Although it holds much of the original Oscommerce store look, it seems to work for now. It is live, so no test orders, but feel free to place a real one if you wish! I appreciate all your criticisms, praises, and ideas. Thanks, Steve
Guest Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Sorry, my webhost was working on the server today...had some downtime, but its now back up.
Arpit Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 clean the "corner_left.gif" it has a lil line over it... The late twentieth century has witnessed a remarkable growth in scientific interest in the subject of extinction ---------------------------------------------------- Arpit
bdaug001 Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 Hi, I think the site looks great... I really think the color scheme you chose fits the product you are selling very well. The buttons look fantastic, and having the 'In Summary' section of your privacy policy is a really good idea. Also, I really like the category images and the images you used to replace the 'table_background.gif' on most pages. Quick question, are those stock photos, or did you do them yourself? Im just curious; they look really good Ben Daughtry Dachitech Software www.dtechsoftware.com --B
Guest Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 Thanks for the replies, not bad for a rookie, eh? Arpit - thanks for pointing out the issue with my corner gifs. I'm not sure why its displaying that way on both sides. I'll have to fix that as it bugs me too. Ben - thanks as well! I'm glad you like the color scheme. It's seems to be ok. The images I used to replace table_background...gif is photo clip art from Microsoft. You can get many just like them all for free at http://dgl.microsoft.com. The annoying part of modifying them is they are in WMF (windows metafile format). Here's the steps I went through to modify them in Photoshop. I inserted the picture into Word, did a screen print of the word document with the image, then pasted that screen print into Photoshop, where I could modify, resize, etc. Time consuming process, but I did not know of an easier way. I did the buttons thanks to El Bavaro's contribution. He built a template that one can change in Macromedia Fireworks that can create tons of different buttons in a snap. So I give him credit for making that part easy. If you have not done so, visit his website, and get that template. Here it is http://www.elbavarowebdesign.de Definitely a time saver, and top notch graphics art work by El Bavaro. :)
marcgaston Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Hi Steve, your store looks nice. There seems to be a problem with the language selection. I am assuming that you are only providing information in english. However, my using a german browser or german windows makes the default language german and I can see the standard osc texts fresh from installation (this is the default installation of the osc ...). And I have no means to switch it back since you probably deleted the language selection box. I am a novice in osc so I don't have any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Cheers Marc
Guest Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 To fix the language problem if you are only going to use English.....Simply delete the German and Spanish language directories.
Guest Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 I had no idea that a German browser would display my site like that. Learned something new. Thanks for letting me know Mark! Thanks for the advice Kim...For now, the site will be english only, but maybe down the road I will add Spanish and German. So for now I'll delete the other languages. Thanks, Steve
