Irish Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 Hi All, Please help with this. I have no idea what is going on. I am getting bizarre product weights and shipping costs I've done a new install of tep_snapshot-20030602.zip Totally new. Its not as if I'm over writing bits and pieces of different snapshot releases or anything. Here's what I then did:- In Configuration ..Shipping/Packaging: Post code : NONE, Country Code, IE, Max Weight, 10, Package Tare Weight [?? What on earth is this ??] 0.1, Larger Packages % Increase: 10 In Modules...Shipping Modules: Removed all shipping options apart from 'Zone Rates' Added a few Zone Rates, eg :- zone to IE,GB:- 0-0.130:0.57,0.130-0.150:0.57,0.150-0.170:0.57,0.170-0.250:0.72,0.250-0.290:0.84,0.290-0.570:0.96,0.570-1.0:1.45,1.000-10.000:1000 Changed all my product weights to be in Kg (they are all under 1.0 - could this be a problem?) Edited all my /languages/../shipping/zones.php to show Kg Added 'Display Product weight' item of 'y' to 'configuration..Product Listing' Er. Thats about all I have done. Now, Who would think that THIS would HAPPEN:- I select an item that weighs in at 0.25 Kg. It SAYS 0.25 KG on product listing page.(Hurray) I proceed to check out : Guess what? the product is now a full 0.35 Kg in weight.! where did that extra weight come from I wonder? Is that what the Tare weight is about?? Hey, and guess what else? looking at my zoning table, a weight of 0.35Kg should have a shipping cost to IE of 0.96 [see above : 0.290-0.570:0.96 ] What does OS Commerce decide to apply? A charge of 1.45 ! yep, thats the um.. rate for 0.57 -1.0 Kg So In summary :- 1) the Package gets an added weight when it goes to the check out 2) this new weight is ignored completely and os commerce decides to up the zone price as well. w.t.h am I doing wrong? Do I need to add more shipping modules? do I add a per Item and table rate as well as Zone rate? where does this mysterious additional weight come from? What is the point of a Tare Weight?? Please please help. Many thanks Irish.
hochan1234 Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Hi Irish, I have the same problem, it just got me crazy. I don't know whether you have fixed this problem. I am using 2.02. And to make it simple, I put something like 50, 100, etc on each of my items. (i.e. under product/catagory on admin) and put like 50:1.00,100:2.00,150:3.00, etc. but when I put more then one items, the system will give me very funny number. any clue?? Ho
Irish Posted June 9, 2003 Author Posted June 9, 2003 Hey! I Figured this out. Anyone who knows better can correct me, however: Tare Weight : this is the weight of the packaging that you are going to use to place you package in. NOT the weight of the package itself. I had this set at 100 grams, and lo and behold, 100 g in weight was added to my order. To fix: Set the tare weight to zero. Additional weights and things: set the % increase to zero as well, or you will get a problem here too. Weight ranges in the shipping zones seem to be 'upwards' inclusive : so if you have a shipping zone of 1-2 thats $2.00 and another that is 2-3 of $5, then a product weighing 2 will actually cost $5 in shipping. The only problem I have now, is that oscommerce claims that there is no shipping available to my country, no matter how many times I scream that Alaska is in the US and that I REALLY HAVE A US SHIPPING ZONE, os commerce comes up with the wonderful one liner : "No shipping available to the selected country" And don't you dare try and add in a different shipping address! That gets a really cool SQL Insert Duplicate ID error. Sheesh! You fix one, and another rears its ugly head... Irish.
