thomasgo Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 I don't know the difference between a merchant account and a gateway...??? Looked at 2checkout.com and they seem really expensive... Who is the best (cheapest and most reliable) to go with to accept cc and check online??? How easy is it to set-up??? Thanks Thomas
Daemonj Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 A merchant account allows you to charge someone credit card. A payment gateway is a processor that actually processes the charge. For example, Wells Fargo provides a merchant account while Authorize.net is the gateway. Unless you have a lot of sales or sell really expensive items, PayPal and 2Checkout are the way to go. When you get into the high dollar sales, then look into a merchant account and Authorize.net (or another payment gateway). "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence." - A. Einstein
