Guest Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Your "oscommerce.sql" is there but ...did you create an empty database before the installation ? The_Bear
americamba Posted June 4, 2003 Author Posted June 4, 2003 Wow, you're quick. Merci. I have a database on the server. I entered its name in the install procedure. ANy ideas? Frank
Guest Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 In the install procedure ...did you put localhost as the server name ? The_Bear
americamba Posted June 4, 2003 Author Posted June 4, 2003 yes. I used localhost. But I am not very confident about the entries I made for the other entries. I entered as follows: Webserver Root Directory: http://www.mydomain.com Webserver Catalog Directory: /catalog/ Webserver Administration Tool Directory: /catalog/admin/ WWW Catalog Directory: /catalog/ WWW Administration Tool Directory /catalog/admin/ Database Server: localhost Username: my username password: my password database: my database name I bet my mistake is there, Thank, Frank
orchard Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Some hosting companies modify your database name and user name to make sure they are unique on their shared SQL server. One of mine puts oakvalle_ in front of my database and user name. I don't know if the first 8 letters of the domain name is a standard way to do it or not. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.
prosto Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 web server root directory is not www.mydomain.com - it should be somethinf like /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/html when you click on New install button it provides this info for you so just do not change it. Thanks
americamba Posted June 4, 2003 Author Posted June 4, 2003 Thanks guys, No, orchard, that doesn't happen with me because I handle another datbase with sql. Prosto: You steered me right. For weeks I was experimenting with different customizing of what the install options put in the boxes. It wan't clear that you just leave everything alone. It says something like this is USUALLY what you enter. I think that is a slight error of wording or I just went off on the wrong foot. Anyway, THANKS and now... I have to go so I can't continue with the setup. When I get back to work, how do I get to my store when I want to start filling it, modifying etc? Thanks, Frank
prosto Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 then you type www.yourdomain.com/catalog int he address bar in your browser to get to your store and www.yourdomain.com/catalog/admin/ to get to store admin Thanks
