Its not perfect or anything :) but it does the job quite well on thousands and thousands of live shops. I know other commercial packages that have features osCommerce doesn;t support, things like templates, order changing etc. but there are contributions outthere which will address most of this (to an extend). Check the links in my signature (contributions / docs) and install and testdrive it on your computer. Best way to check if it does what you need. In general, for the typical stores that sell normal items, then osCommerce certainly does the job. If you have something strange, then osCommerce might even be better simply because it allows you to modify the operation to suit your needs. I do not think that anything with software can ever be called the best. The real question you should be asking is whether osCommerce can do what you need. At the time I had some difficulty learning how to configure it and also convincing my partners that we needed to use it. Now we wouldn't even consider changing. The newer releases are packed with valuable features as the developers actually LISTEN to the folks that use it. It also has more payment gateways than any other system out there. But OsCom's major strength lies with the support of all the people that are willing to help you make it work for your needs.
