bretand Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Long story short I just leased a linux server and am attempting to install oscommerce. When I start the installation and get to step to the page dies on me. This is as far as it gets.. osCommerceOpen Source E-Commerce Solutions New Install Step 1: Database Import Then it ends. I get no error or any other sort of message. Apache, mySQL, and PHP are all installed an running. I can connect to the database via Dreamweaver MX so I'm sure it isn't a user/pass/database server issue. I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance.
Daemonj Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Did you upload the files yourself and are now running the install program or was osC installed through your server's Control Panel or your ISP? Daemonj Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Have you used PHPMyAdmin or another tool that you have available to view your MySQL database to see if any tables were created in your database? bretand Posted June 3, 2003 Author Posted June 3, 2003 There are no tables in my db yet. If I remember correctly (I have osC installed on 2 windows boxes and one linux already) install.php?step=2 is the 'warning' that the *.sql file must be in a specified directory. The page stops displaying before it gets to that message though. I've been through the source on that page and it appears that I should get either the normal page or an error related to the sql connection -- I get neither. Thanks again.
Daemonj Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 You are correct and your problem is truly odd. Have you tried clearing your history and temporary internet files just to see if something in your cache is not hanging things up? To be honest, I do not have an idea at this point what the problem could be. :( "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. bretand Posted June 3, 2003 Author Posted June 3, 2003 I am doing that now... I had thought of it -- but hadn't done it yet. We'll see what happens though. I'll report back. Thanks again
bretand Posted June 3, 2003 Author Posted June 3, 2003 No help... still getting the same thing-- NS6 abd IE6. * shakes head * I'm honestly at a loss.
Daemonj Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 I have an idea that is a wild shot and probably will not make a difference, but is worth a try. Would you mind PM'ing me your url and the details for the first page and I can give it a go? "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. Daemonj Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Brett, In case you do not have PM notifications enabled, I wanted to let you know what I found. If you deselect the Import Catalog Database option the install script works fine. The way around this is to complete the install. Then use a MySQL tool like PHPMyAdmin to import the oscommerce.sql file into your database. Then edit both of the includes/configure.php files for the database information. You should then be okay. :) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds.
