Visceral Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Here's my issues. Not being too framiliar with SSL yet, I need to ask a few questions. I've completed most of my design changes on my own personal space without SSL. The client has secured some new hosting space, but we won't be transfering over the actual domain name until the new site is up and running. Two part question here: 1.) Can we install the SSL cert based on just the hosting DNS before the domain itself is transfered over? Or should we wait until the domain itself is pointing at the DNS info before registering the SSL? 2.) In either of the above cases, I would imagine it's prefable to have the SSL installed BEFORE attempting to do the OsCommerece setup on the new live site? (For instance, during setup I know it asks you if you are going to use SSL). Thanks in advance.
rseigel Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 You can change the SSL settings in OSC any time. It doesn't have to be during the install. Just edit your configure.php files to reflect the new settings.
Visceral Posted June 1, 2003 Author Posted June 1, 2003 That's good to know. What about the actuall install? If some on my images are going to be hard links to a www.domain name/catalog/images/image and not an IP address, should I wait until the domain name is associated with the IP address before installing the SSL cert?
Guest Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Not sure if this will help you, but i had an SSL problem that could not be fixed through the configure.php files. My solution is posted here... http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...3&highlight=ssl Hope it is of some help to you.
Visceral Posted June 1, 2003 Author Posted June 1, 2003 Interesting and very informative.. I'd rather wait until the domain is transfered over and the SSL cert is installed, BUT, my client has an exisitng ASP site thats she's using and I hope to avoid downtime. If i switch the domain over now, the new site will still take a few days to get tweaked (some of the images) and the SSL stuff just right. Of course the new host doesn't run ASP, so moving the entire thing over as a temp measure won't work. You see the problem...
