Guest Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Hello, well I wanted to see what everyone thinks. Any advice and or comments would be greatly appreciated. http://www.lingustech.com/store Also one more thing, one of my developers has stated he has been having a lot of problems coding due to our host using php 4.2.x especially the mods. Should we find another host or should i find another developer? Thanks Fitz http://www.ebuildpc.com or http://www.ibuildpc.com in the works, seems like more hassle than worth since we cannot define what systems ae compatible with what processors, mb, and asst peripherals. BTH; I was also thinking of changing the domain from lingustech.com to iyolk.com, ipenguin.com or some other easily associated domain since LT is a bit difficult to spell/type for most users... any thoughts or ideas appreciated
Guest Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Very nice looking site 8) If you don't offer other languages you could remove the language box. That would help to balance the columns.
Guest Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Nice site, but im not keen on the dropdown menu. It could be intimidating for newer users.
Guest Posted June 1, 2003 Posted June 1, 2003 Nice header from monster;-) But you should consider to change the dropdown menue, its not really customer friendly. And you searchbox on top is going strait into google. Just a suggestion Cheers
Guest Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Thanks for the info...We are going to upgrade to the latest release of OsCommerce and implemet your suggestions. I appreciate your help if anyone has anymore thoughts that would be appreciated. Fitz
orchard Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 Having to do with your poll, I would suggest getting a domain name that can be spoken over the phone or in person and then typed in correctly by the other person. It helped us years ago when we changed our domain name from pseng.com to oakvalley.com. PS Engineering was the initials of the original founders and Oak Valley has nothing to do with anything, but we almost never have people asking how to spell oakvalley as they are trying to get to our web site or send us an email. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.
Drako Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 very nice color (thx to monster!) but i don't like the drop down menu (as the other says). very clear and nice! If i vere you i'll use 100% of the browser, and not only the central part (wich is about 800 pixel wide)... my contribution: Alex's Contributions
Guest Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 The problem I see with a lot of 'monster' headers like this, is that they take up way too much space - it's ok to a certian extent on the front page, but when there is a great big header for the content pages, I don't think the design stands - perhaps a slimmer header for internal pages ? just my 2cents :D BrianD
Guest Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 Well I appreciate your help in getting me the design and functionality hints. I will be updating the site as soon as our host updates our PHP engine, they are using a older version which is causing a lot of grief with osCommerce. Can't wait to make more money and get a t1 running to my server  I will be doing some more websites branching away from the Lingustech name and going into more specialized sites that will focus on a specific set of products or services. They will of course still fall under the LT corporate umbrella.
Guest Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 I'm not sure that hobbling a Monster Flash header on the top of a near bog standard OSC site works - with original OSC buttons and all. The whole effect is rather confusing with too many links and too much going on. Some of those top links give a 404 error BTW. Later version of PHP seem to give more problems than earlier versions - I have had problems with OSC each time my hosts upgraded...
