LostInPHP Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Please forgive my newness... I have no idea where to start with setting up osCommerce. I'm going to need lots of guidence and I'll warn ya right now.... I can be a pain hehe :) I'm no stranger to html coding, but this is my first time attempting PHP. I LOVE the look of osCommerce and would really like to use it for my handmade soap and toiletries site. With that said let me begin with this... I'm on a server with cPanel 6 and to install the osCommerce script all I had to do was click a button, designate a folder name(I called it shoppingcart), create a user name and password. Now let me add that I've been at this for 3 days now... I installed and uninstalled this 3 times already because I totally messed up the cart just trying to add colors to headers and add my graphic to the top header. I just did a new install and discovered it's installed in 2 places... in my public_html folder AND in my www folder. Where should I be making modifications(which folder)? I was doing it in the shoppingcart folder that appeared in my www folder before. Now for another newbie question(told ya I can be a pain :).... what is MYSQL and do i have to use it? I think I messed up one of my previous carts by clicking on the MYSQL. (BTW.. I'm a clicker... if it can be clicked... I'll click it! LOL I should know better, but hey... it's in my cPanel I wanted to know what it did :) Help me I'm lost in PHP and I don't have a map!
Guest Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 As for your public_html and www folders they are simply a mirror of each other. So if you delete your install from one, you will lose it from both. Just choose one or the other and you can make all updates from the one you choose.
LostInPHP Posted May 31, 2003 Author Posted May 31, 2003 Thanks... I'll start over and take it one small step at a time. I ran into some major error troubles with the MySQL thingy(must not click things I don't know anything about)... I'll work it all out and before I do anything too major I'll check with you great folks over here first. Terri Help me I'm lost in PHP and I don't have a map!
