bsnrjones Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Okay, I have searched for this, but I have never found a good answer. Are you getting good rankings on Google with your OsCommerce set-up? I understand you probably have to use some type of SID killer to get spidered well, but is it working to actually get you good rankings? I currently have a pure html store, that has grown out of hand, but it also enjoys good search engine placement. I am trying to figure out if I will get good rankings once I make the switch to OsCommerce. Please let me know how you are doing, I would greatly appreciate it! Burke
wizardsandwars Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Well up until about a month ago, I would have said yes, google gives us very good listings, with a proper sid killer in place. However, lately, Google has been toying with their algorithem, and about a month ago, all of my product listings have dropped out of Google, and all of the product listings to every site I am associated with has encountered the same. Not sure what the deal is, to tell you the truth. I thought I had Google just about all figured out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
burt Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 SID killer All Prods Meta Tags Using this combination I have 429 product pages listed in Google (as of right now), out of 429 products (as was) :) There are now 370 odd products as quite a few were removed a few days back from the catalog - but that makes no difference. I am quite happy to provide Google URLs to back this up to anyone who wants it by PM, on the proviso that you do not post the URLs here (as the site owner would not appreciate it).
dvdvideo Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Hi Burt, What is the actual contribution your meaning for meta tags? I found the others ok :) I also have moved from a html store with thousands of pages to oscom and like bsnrjones , have high serch engine ratings that I dont wantto loose. BTW will all the contribs you mention work on the latest 2.2 snapshot ? Its hard to know which is the best snapshot to use. I currently use 12/09/2002 which I want to update to a late version... any suggestions? Cheers Paul
burt Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 My own flavour of meta tags, it is not a contribution. I automatically make meta tags from the product description and name. If you search on "meta" + my username you should find a post where I've explained what to do.
Guest Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Hi, i have the SID killer, All Prods and Meta Tags. I've been waiting about a month now, google has come and gone several times and still only my default page is listed. I'm wondering what i've done wrong, can someone maybe have a look? www.fyersart.com
